What I learned about the womens’ movement I learned in the trenches fighting for the ERA and from Dr Margaret Henson in her class Women in American History. The movement has suffered from waves from its beginning in the late 1700s, each time a major gain occurred there was an ebb as involvement wained. It only came back as women got more involved in other issues, then blossomed from that activism. As with almost all other social issues, when economic or military emergencies happen, those social issues go on the back burner, I will probably not live to see the next crest, but we are so deep in the trough that we could go on a steady rise for 30 years and be where we had hoped to go in the 70s.
